This spiritual practice, known as a "watch," involves staying awake for prayer. It's traditionally observed before the Blessed Sacrament on Maundy Thursday at the Altar of Repose and can also be a vigil of prayer and comfort for the ill or dying, echoing Christ's plea in Gethsemane (Mt 26:40).
